LiveSimply – Overseas Project
As part of Live Simply, we are called to Live in Solidarity with the Poor.
Earlier in the year we reached out to see if you had any links to charities that might benefit
from our support. We received three strong nominations to consider and having contacted
them to gain a deeper knowledge of their work and considered practicalities, one nomination
in particular met the criteria more so than the others. This being the case, the LiveSimply
Team felt our Parishes were able to support The Poor Servants of the Mother of God with
their project through the Convent of St Monica at Ikutha, Kitui South, Kenya.
Kitui County is generally marked by conditions close to semi-arid so there is little rainfall with
long periods of drought. Water is a scarce commodity even though the population in this area
depends heavily on subsistence farming for livelihood. This has caused food insecurity in the
area, poor health and a lack of opportunities for the young to receive education.
In October, Sr Munanie from The Poor Servants in Roehampton will be welcomed by our
Parishes of St Dunstan’s and St Hugh’s to speak to us a about the project and what diƯerence
our support can make. We propose to support the project for a period of two years and will
launch a Jackpot Club (already established at St Hugh’s) as part of our fundraising.
